Vassileios VARELAS

Vassileios VARELAS holds a MA and BSc degree (integrated master) in music performance (classical guitar as main instrument) and Musicology from the Ionian University in Greece. He also holds a soloist diploma in Byzantine Music performance from the Music School of Byzantine and traditional Music of Holy Archdiocese of Athens, a soloist diploma in Classical Guitar and degrees in Fugue, Counterpoint and Harmony as a result of his conservatory music studies in Greece. At the present, he is a master student in Musicology at the department of Musicology at Uppsala University. His main areas of interest in musicological research are the theory, analysis, performance, and history of Byzantine and Western music, the modal traditional folk and urban Greek music, the early and renaissance music, Ethnomusicology, and composition. He also holds a PhD degree in Chemistry from the University of Athens.
