Katherine BUTLER is Senior Lecturer in Music at Northumbria University in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her research focuses on the musical culture of sixteenth and seventeenth-century England, encompassing genres ranging from court music to ballads and popular song, and spanning themes such as politics, gender, death, mythology, science and medicine, manuscript studies, and early music printing. She is the author of Music in Elizabethan Court Politics (Boydell and Brewer, 2015), co-editor of Music, Myth and Story in Medieval and Early Modern England (Boydell, 2019), and is currently co-editing Elizabethan and Jacobean Praises of Music with Samantha Arten.
