Bernhold SCHMID studied Musicology, medieval history, and German literature in Munich. He received his MA in 1982 and his Ph.D. in 1985 with a dissertation on “The Gloria-Trope Spiritus et alme”. In 1985 he was appointed to the Musikhistorische Kommission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and he assumed responsibility for editing Lasso’s motets in 2000. His publications focus on the music of the Renaissance (Orlando di Lasso and other composers), medieval music and music theory, and music around 1900.
