Asher V. YAMPOLSKY is a theorist and historical musicologist specializing in Notre Dame Polyphony, Frankish-Roman plainchant, and sacred polyphonic genres of the Renaissance. His thesis, “Melodic Mode in Notre Dame Organum Duplum”, was completed last year under the supervision of Mark Everist at the University of Southampton and breaks fresh ground in multiple areas. It reads modal treatises through a cognitive lens and develops a statistical approach to investigate mode in organa. He is currently an independent scholar.
